I have hosted probably a hundred benefits over the years, mostly for arts organizations. For one event, a country and Western-themed gala for the Henry Art Gallery, I got together a kick-ass band (with most of the Half Brothers involved) and we did a night of some of our favorites—including this iconic Patsy Cline tune. But what made this song stay in a magical place in my heart was another collaboration.
There was a dance series called Ten Tiny Dances, a night where dancers performed on a 4’x4’ stage. I danced a duet in the show with the glorious dancer/choreographer Peter Kyle, and Kara O’Toole was also in the show. A fierce dancer, arts maven and artistic director, Kara was doing a solo from choreographer Pat Graney’s Jesus Loves the Little Cowgirls on the Ten Tiny stage. Dressed in full cowgirl regalia, she danced to “She’s Got You.”
After the show, we all went to a karaoke bar, and I sang the song. Kara, now just in a t-shirt and jeans, got up, danced, and blew away an entirely unsuspecting public. Art out of nowhere! It was a small moment of perfect presence that stayed with me forever. The Half-Brothers supported me on this one, and my invaluable recording partner, engineer Pete Remine, joined me on pedal steel.
Pete Remine, my engineer on the record, was my partner in all of the collaborations. His Dubtrain studio is just steps from his home and is the most delightful place to record. He is also an incredible musician and plays pedal steel guitar on this tune!

I did this song years ago as part of the Bashville benefit for the Henry Art Gallery. My friend Terry made a full cowgirl suit out of pink bathmats for me and we took shots on the mechanical bull at Cowgirls Inc!
